Fab food, great accommodation, and the cheekiest landlord in the Dales!

Relax in an atmosphere that conjures up visions of the past ? beamed ceilings, beautiful antiques, open fires and Dales hospitality - you will find a steady stream of local clientele and a dog or two stretched out in front of our roaring open log fire.
This 17th century inn has greeted travelers for nearly 300 years and this friendly tradition continues today. We are big believers in top quality cask-conditioned real ales and on tap you will find three local breweries ? Black Sheep, Wensleydale and Theakstons. As a free house, we also serve guest ales on a regular basis. Just pick up the phone if you want to know what we have on! Our wine list has a broad geographic reach and with the help of we have selected an excellent global list.
The pub is suitable for all ? walkers, cyclists, families, dogs on a lead.
Families are especially welcome where children of all ages can sit in the bar and enjoy a meal from the children?s menu. High chairs and booster seats are available for little ones too.
Walkers can safely leave their coats and boots in the hall to relax in front of the roaring fire. Cyclists can leave their bikes tethered outside or in a locked garage. Dogs are provided with their own water bowl in the bar.
A separately partitioned sports bar is ideal to watch key sporting events, or just keep up with the news on the two TVs, or why not enjoy a leisurely or maybe competitive game of pool.
A varied menu of hearty meals and light bites are available to eat in the dining room or in the bar at lunchtime and evening, including our glorious Sunday lunchtime carvery. Locally sourced seasonal produce is used throughout the menus. Renowned locally as the best chips in the area too!
